Children who have achieved Stage 6 or above are invited to join this course.
The Rookie Lifeguard programme is the junior award scheme of the RLSS UK. For most children Rookie Lifeguard will be the first opportunity to explore water safety and alternative safe aquatic play.
The Rookie skills make Rookies aware of how to take better care of themselves, their family and friends, and give them the information they need to promote water safety in their day to day activities. The awards contain survival, rescue and sports skills as well as life support and water safety elements.
Your child will start with Stage 1 of the Bronze Award, progressing through to Stage 3 of the Gold Award. Rookie Lifeguard is part of the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) developed by the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) although it can also be run as a stand-alone course by Lifesaving Clubs, Leisure Centres, Swim schools and as part of school swimming lessons. The Rookie Lifeguard Water Safety Award fulfils all of the Key Stage 2 water safety elements of the National Curriculum.
The courses run at Farnborough Hill School on Mondays between 6.00 - 6.30pm, 6.30 - 7.00pm and 7:00 - 7.30pm; and Wednesdays between 6.30 - 7.00pm. For those children also doing weekly lessons, we offer the Rookie course at a reduced price of £5.00 per session (£60.00 for a 12 lesson block). If your child is only doing the Rookie course then the lessons will be £8.90 per session (£106.80 for a 12 lesson block). On completion of Rookie Bronze 1, all students will receive a free Rookie t-shirt.
