Fins Academy has been running for three years now and has proved to be a great success! We only select our higher level swimmers to attend and the Academy is by invitation only to those swimmers who have completed Stage 7+.
The objective of the Academy is to give swimmers an introduction to competitive swimming and can be used as a stepping stone before moving onto club swimming. Not all children will want to move onto a club, or have the ability, but the Academy will allow them to use this hour long session to build on their skills, stamina and thus fitness. The main aim is to improve stamina as this is vital to a swimmer's success. In addition to this, there will be a focus on competitive starts and turns. The training session will also help to improve a swimmer's confidence, discipline and commitment and hopefully create lasting friendships. We hold internal competitions throughout the year to give swimmers the experience and opportunity to put into practice all that they have learnt and reap the benefits of the hard work that they have put in and really enjoy themselves! If we feel a swimmer is showing potential to join a club, Fins will advise you on the next steps.
The sessions are held on a Monday and Thursday evening from 6.30 - 7.30pm, and on Wednesday evening from 6:30 - 7:30pm and from 7:30 - 8:30pm at Kings International College. The cost is just £4.00 per session in conjunction with weekly lessons, or £8 for the Academy only. The sessions are run by a Level 2 teacher with lifeguard qualification who will lead the session from poolside. Swimmers are expected to continue with their weekly lessons to develop their skills and stroke technique.
Swimmers are expected to have their own training bag which includes a kick board, pull buoy, flippers and hand paddles. This kit bag costs £40 and is available to buy from the online shop.
